Shop Green

Danes are becoming increasingly aware of environmental issues and the many ways to protect the environment even with the smallest changes. As a result, Copenhagen is booming with ecological and "green" shops trying to oblige people's demands and preferences.

When it comes to shopping in Copenhagen, there are many opportunities to be environmentally conscious. Whether you are looking for clothes, accessories, hair & skin care, perfume or food, there is always a "green" alternative.

If you want to get your hands on some "green" clothes, visit CommonZenz in the district of Nørrebro, which is the first organic life style boutique selling Danish and international environmentally-conscious fashion. The design and quality are of very high standards, and you will find the boutique brand Makezenz along with other eco-brands such as Edun, Elsom, iNTi Knitwear, Philippa, Noir and Patagonia Footwear.
Another place to go is boutique Mode med Mening (Clear conscience fashion) where you can get fairtrade handbags and accessories.

Need something to take home for the kids? Go to Aniel in the district of Frederiksberg to get baby and children's clothing, wooden toys and home accessories - all made of organic and natural materials.

If you need a haircut, a beauty treatment or simply want to buy some nice products, you can go to Zenz, Sundform, Oz or Pureshop, which have all specialised in using purely organic products.

Copenhagen also has a range of organic food stores. The first organic supermarket to open in Copenhagen was Egefeld, which is for the quality conscious consumer and with approx. 3000 different products you can find everything you need and then some.
Purefood is a smaller organic store, where you will find one of the city's largest selections of ultra fresh organic and biodynamic fruit and vegetables.
The Butcher at Kultorvet is the place to go if you want fresh organic meat. The focus on animal welfare and unique taste was introduced 10 years ago before the environmental trend had really caught on, and this shop is one of the last butcher's shops in Denmark where everything is done the old-fashioned way and all staff wear the tradional butchers' bowler hats.
Shopping green products might seem too insignificant to make a difference, but even the smallest things can help change the future.
