Culture: Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek 2004 - 2006

The Glyptotek celebrates its centenary in June 2006. The Carlsberg Foundation and the New Carlsberg Foundation have given the museum a magnificent present: the financial means to move into the 21st century with grace.

During Project 2006, the French Wing by Henning Larsen remains open until 30 April, 2006. Here, visitors are offered The Glyptotek Compact, a unique selection of the best works from all the Glyptotek’s collections.

Until April 30, 2006, the Café Glyptoteket is open just as you can relax in the Winter Garden and visit the Museum Shop. The monumental Central Hall will remain open as well.

All other galleries are closed, and from April 30 till June 28, 2006, the museum as a whole will be closed.

The refurbishment project will lead to improved visitor facilities, expanded information on the collections and a completely new permanent exhibit designed to introduce the visitor to the ancient civilizations of the Mediterranean area. All existing galleries will be extensively renewed in order to increase the visitors enjoyment of the treasures kept.

The entire museum will open again from 28 June, 2006 with an exhibition featuring the landscape paintings of Eduard Degas.

A temporary entrance has been opened at Tietgensgade 25 (to the right of the Main Entrance, facing the Tivoli Gardens). And since the museum has less to offer than usual, entrance fees have of course been halved (DKK 20).
Daily 10-16. Closed Mondays. Also closed December 24-25 and New Years Day.
Free entrance Wednesdays and Sundays.
