The Danish Youth and Family Hostels have been officially classified and awarded a certain number of stars, the maximum being 5 stars. The classification is based on 33 different basic elements that can be fulfilled to a higher or lesser degree as far as buildings, rooms, facilities, commom areas are concerned. However, atmosphere, 'cosines' and scenic surroundings have not been taken into account.

In addition to the star-classifications, Danhostel calls on the hostels unannouced primarily to evaluate the atmosphere, service and surroundings of the hostel.
