Services for the disabled

Read here who you can contact if you are in acute need of helping aids or need help repairing your own helping aids while on holiday in Denmark.

In the different regions, special technical aids centres have been established to provide information, guidance, and expert assistance with regard technical aids. An appointment or reference is required.

Although the service and guidance of tourists do not fall within the field of activity of the aid centres, the centres will help in case of emergencies.

Contact the local tourist office, should you require help during your visit to Denmark.

An increasing number of Danish cultural institutions have an attendance scheme which provides attendant discount to people with disabilities. Most of them offer that a visitor requiring assistance may bring an attendant free of charge against showing an identity card from the Danish Association of the Blind or an attendant card from DSB (the Danish State Railways). Foreigners must inquire about the possibilities of obtaining attendant discounts with the individual institutions.

Traffic rules for wheelchairs

When driven on the pavement, electric wheelchairs may have a maximum speed corresponding to walking pace (approx. 6 km/h). Wheelchairs exceeding this speed are treated as bicycles and must observe the same traffic rules.

- no driving on pavements
- use cycle paths where available
- if there are no cycle paths, use the carriageway

Rules on the use of lights are also the same as for bicycles.
