Denmark - a precious pearl

A sea-cruise to Denmark might take you to our historic capital of Copenhagen, to Aarhus and Aalborg in Jutland or other fabulous destinations in Denmark.

Cruise Denmark
Wonderful Copenhagen
Copenhagen is alive, amending its 1,000-year history every day to offer visitors more attractions and greater opportunities to explore. Its stylish atmosphere can be felt at every turn: many of its hotels are part of major international chains and offer the best in modern comfort and luxury; it’s world-class arts scene, with soaring ballet, sizzling jazz clubs, and stunning museums.
A sparkling city
Contemporary Copenhagen also sports hot new restaurants where creative chefs are making their mark on the European culinary scene. Copenhagen also has a happening nightlife and outstanding shopping opportunities. On the pedestrian street, Strøget, the exclusive department stores and smart boutiques compete for your attention, while the quaint winding side streets will tempt you in to peruse the latest fashions, antiques, fine silverware and Scandinavian designer furniture. In other words – a true shopper’s paradise.

Aarhus – with life and soul
Established by the Vikings, Aarhus is one of Denmark’s oldest cities. Now Denmark’s second-largest city, Aarhus has a population of almost 300,000, a dynamic commercial life and a youthful and ambitious university centre. Everywhere in Aarhus you feel the pulse of the metropolis combined with the local charm that adds to the feel-good mood. Not without reason, Aarhus is known as ”the World’s Smallest City”.

Explore the city
The heart of town is drenched in atmosphere. Here, the old and the new meet. The streets, riverside promenade and welcoming side streets invite you to explore boutiques, cafés and restaurants. In the heart of the city all kinds of artistic and cultural attractions await you: The Cathedral, The Old Town, the Concert Hall, museums, galleries and beautiful old and new buildings. The cruise ships dock at the city centre – just 5-10 minutes’ walk from the city centre. The heart of town is drenched in atmosphere. Here, the old and the new meet. Aalborg – the partying city
Aalborg has a deserving reputation as a fun-filled city that partys all night long. The Jomfru Ane Gade strip is known throughout most of Scandinavia for its happening nightlife of discos, music venues and restaurants packed cheek-by-jowl along the whole length of the street. The scene is constantly reinvented with new restaurants, cafés and music venues in a great, night-on-the-town setting close to the harbour.

A cultural gem
But Aalborg has many other things and far more to offer besides the Jomfru Ane Gade nightlife. The city offers a whole host of popular music concerts at all the many venues, two annual jazz & blues festivals, along with many outdoor rock concerts in the city parks over the summer. A festive, spring-time event is the annual Aalborg Carnival – the largest in Northern Europe – where the entire city seethes with samba rhythms and smiling, barely-dressed dancers. Everyone is welcome to dance along in the long parade through the city.

Maritime Svendborg
Small enough to be friendly – large enough to be a proper town – and with the heart of the town giving onto the harbour-front cafés and restaurants – all part and parcel of a vibrant dockside community. Svendborg is the main centre for the permanent population and visitors in South Funen. The city is known as the gateway to the South Funen Archipelago.

A town steeped in traditions
Svendborg honours its proud maritime traditions in its preservation of the old town centre with its narrow winding streets, its market squares and courtyards – all of which bear witness to a heritage that dates back to the Early Middle Ages. In the Late Middle Ages, Svendborg ranked as one of the most important trading centres in Scandinavia. Svendborg today is a unique blend of the old and the new, of sea-faring, culture and history – and contemporary style.

Bornholm – the sunny island
When God created Scandinavia he was left with a collection of all the distinctive features of the Nordic Region. He took these and threw them into the Baltic, and so, as legend has it, this was the birth of Bornholm.

Paradise on Earth
Bornholm is Denmark’s most easterly island, and is a veritable paradise, with its richly varied landscape of cliffs, rocks, woodland, heathland and miles of white sandy beaches giving onto farming land, farmhouses and small, picturesque towns with half-timbered houses and old-fashioned paving stones. The island is famous for its community of talented craftsmen who produce glassware and stoneware – along with the smokehouses and their delicious smoke-cured herring. Despite its diminutive size, Bornholm even has several wonderful museums and attractions, great shopping opportunities, not to mention all the delightful regional delicacies that can be savoured here.
